Sola Union is not a grand denomination, nor a mere network. We are a presbytery in the classical sense: A covenantal assembly of elders representing local congregations, gathered together to exercise Christ’s love and authority in His church through mutual counsel, oversight, discipline, and support. It is a binding structure of accountability in which ministers and ruling elders commit themselves to walk together in doctrine, worship, and government for the purity, peace, and edification of the Church.
Sola Union is an expression of the unity of the body of Christ beyond the local congregation, embodying the principle that churches are not independent, but mutually bound together in covenant fellowship. Thus, a presbytery in the classical sense is both pastoral and judicial, it shepherds and strengthens the flock, while also guarding the faith and maintaining discipline, all under the authority of Christ the King.
In order to join Sola Union, the following minimum requirements must be met:
For logistical and practical purposes, your church is located in Western Canada (preferably in BC or Alberta)
You and your eldership are on board with our distinctives and values
You and your eldership are willing to sign our Sola Union Eldership Covenant
“As in one house all the members have care one of another, so in the church the members must be knit together in love, watchfulness, and mutual edification; for without this the body cannot stand, but will be rent and torn in pieces.”
